“We wanted to celebrate our gorgeous college amidst our gorgeous city and the resulting theme is ‘A Mosaic of Moments’ wherein every department, every individual finds their place in the bigger picture.” – Editors-in-Chief, Taal 2025.

Taal has evolved over the years. It started as Raga – a daily newsletter – right at the advent of the fest in 1979. The department with the least volunteers was always bustling with activity, be it conducting interviews, collating happenings, looking for the right story and printing it at the end of a long day, it worked as the perfect tongue-in-cheek newsletter you’d be pumped to read. Then, somewhere around 2017, this transformed into a magazine. But with the same idea of reporting the A-Z of Malhar episodes and their broad extent.

From editors-in-chief selection interviews (yes, OG interviews) to the first ever pitch, the idea stayed with them, traversed with them and has evolved for all to see it come to life on 15th August, 2025. Through a sneak peek into every department, an exclusive interview with a former CP, a homage to our silent supporters, and “personification” (something which can be understood only after reading the magazine) — a flurry of Malhar tropes and feelings await you. You can order your copy through the form that will be released closer to the date!

The cover of our annual magazine is out, marking the evening of 16th July, with an entertaining conversation. Mr. Advait Chandan, renowned filmmaker and former ETC OG, reminisced on his college days, his creative process and shared tips on everything from career, college, to art. Filled with witty one-liners and pragmatic advice (“The hustle is always worth it”), everyone left with the same smile that one has after watching his feel-good films.

That’s when we realised our LA OG Pia Oza's words rang true, “literary spaces are important.” Words present a window to the world – Our World Within Malhar. And our cover looks to emulate it, with a peep into the city, the college and the Malhar rhythm. On the outside, it’s a medley of tiled photos showing the city’s iconic sea link (captured beautifully by Arth Nandu), but it has had multiple personalities and edits to, all in all, exhibit that “आल इज़ well”.

And well, LA OC Rhea Taparia verbalised the sentiment behind publishing a magazine, “You can't bank on the fact that anything that gets posted online is going to survive. But anything that becomes a physical version will remain. It exists so that people can actually read and experience what Malhar was from different points of view.” This truly wouldn’t be possible without the Creatives team creating layouts and designs for the magazine, FnD for all their pictures that get featured in the gallery, Marketing for helping us print, and, of course, the contribution of each department, since their candid communication and conversations make our pen flow faster.

This shining example of the “Spirit of Teamwork” at Malhar (which our guest too holds closest to his heart) has lit many candles along the way, igniting the beginning of countless journeys.

Keepsakes such as these are meant to stick around.

And no matter the nature of the “grunt work”, the gruelling hours, the cycle of approvals, and the late nights you pull off in college, when it comes to looking back; it’s always a highlight reel of the fondest memories. Something to keep you warm, like sitting at a fireplace, something intimate that remains a source of connection for years to come. That’s what our Taal team wants to represent. The archive that will hopefully find a place in your memory box.
